Middle Years Requirements
In order to matriculate into the Diploma Programme in Grade 11, students must complete two critical Middle Years Programme requirements:
- Community Service - over the two years of the MHS Middle Years Programme, students must complete a total of forty hours of community service. Please visit the Millbrook MYP page for more information.
- Personal Project - during the sophomore year of the Middle Years Programme, all students will be expected to complete and present a Personal Project. All prospective Diploma Programme students must complete and pass their Personal Project.
Course Selection
There are a number of pathways a student can take in order to prepare for the Diploma Programme. There are no specific courses a student must take in order to qualify for the programme. There are, however, certain classes and pathways that will better prepare students for the demands and requirements of the Diploma Programme.
Prerequisites expectations:
Mathematics
Algebra II (H)/CCM3 (H). This will allow the student to take IB Math Studies. Most students will finish Algebra II (H)/CCM3 (H) before entering the Diploma Programme. It is, however, possible to take Algebra II (H)/CCM3 (H) during the junior year of the programme, followed by IB Math Studies the senior year.
Precalculus. This will allow the student to take AP Calculus (AB or AB/BC) their junior year followed by IB Math SL their senior year.
Language B (Language Acquisition)
Millbrook currently offers IB French and Spanish. Students will need to have finished a minimum of two years of Language B to begin IB French or Spanish. If a student is unable to do so (studied Latin or Chinese, or transfered to MHS), the student can take Ab Initio Spanish, an IB course that allows the student to begin language studies with no prior experience.
More more information on course sequencing prior to and during the Diploma Programme, see the DP Course Sequencing chart.

Academic challenge
The IB Diploma Programme is the most demanding college prep course of study available. The courses are difficult and the numbers of courses students must take is significant. It is recommended that students considering the Diploma Programme should take a courseload in their freshman and sophomore years that challenge them academically.
Consider the following:
- Honors courses are highly recommended for both years.
- It is recommended that sophomores take one or more Advanced Placement courses.
Suggestions for sophomores include:
